Starting a fresh thread here in the hope that mentioning (G80) might draw attention from those familiar with them. What precedes this can be seen here >> https://www.gmt400.com/threads/rear-wheel-bearing-99-suburban-c2500.58044/ - but there's no reason to read it.

What I want/need to know is if someone can cast an eye (or both) over the photo below and ascertain how worn the clutch pack is. If anyone has a photo of a new completely unworn clutch pack - please post!

Can't copy'n'paste the photo - only a link to them on Rock Auto site >> https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=10370364&cc=1353057&pt=1001204&jsn=604

Unless I'm missing something obvious, they don't have friction lining, are dimpled steel on steel (like Bultaco Sherpa clutches), and mine as well as showing some of the dimpling (on three of the plates) appear to be no thinner than the new ones. Any arguments?

'Tis a strange one.
Pic here of plates for a 10.5'' >> https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...,1353057,drivetrain,differential+clutch,19715 have surfaces similar to ones for 9.5'' and appear to be without friction material.

While these >>
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4031595&cc=1353057&pt=1001204&jsn=605 also for a 10.5'' clearly have friction linings.

My oil was changed 4000 miles earlier and that oil I drained last week is clean - zero blackening. The nearest to black was a very small amount of black soft gunge around where the magnet is located. Safe to say that any friction material did not wear off the plates in the previous 4000 miles.

The oil that came out 4000 miles ago (which couldn't have seen more than 40,000 miles service) I cannot remember the condition of. I pulled it out with a Pela suction pump and all I have to go on is a visual of some of it in the Pela's (already stained) tube in the photo below. There was nothing about the oil that raised any concern at the time as far as I can remember.
