Are the front differentials in a 97 1500 and a 93 1500 a direct swap if they are the same gear ratio and dash code? I've searched for over an hour. I found the transfer cases are the same but can't find out about the front differential. Any help appreciated.

Yup. 88-98 same diff. as long as you got the right gear ratio, they are identical units.

From 88 to 98 should be all the same. You should be good to go, as long as the diff. is the same type and gear You can ID the diff from the cover shape. A 10 bolt is not how many bolts that are on the cover, but how many bolts hold the ring gear on. Also if the Diff is original to the truck, your local Chevy dealer parts dept. can tell you what diff. the truck came with by the VIN number.
