I live in the rust belt. This is my first GMT 400. I know they are prone to rust. How do I combat corrosion from salt?

If this is the wrong spot to post this, let me know; I'm new to the forum.

I wouldn't call them rust prone. I think they're probably the most rust resistant trucks GM has ever made. Having said that, they're definitely not impervious to salt.

I'd say keep it clean, and undercoat it with one of the products that doesn't form a hard film.... something like Fluid Film, Crown, Waxoyl, and that will be a yearly thing. It's not one and done. I used a product that dries (a more traditional undercoating in the US) and it's been ok, but those still need reapplication too, and they can actually promote rust if starts separating from the steel and forms pockets were water can sit.

How about turning off your cap locks? It looks like you're yelling.

Surface Shield is a brand new product. My understanding is that it's both Lanolin and Petroluem. I keep hoping Menard's will start carrying it.

I bought a 5 gallon bucket of Fluid Film. Frank leaks so much oil and power steering fluid he doesn't need it yet!

I'd spray around your power steering box, and inside the frame there.... and may as well do front of the passenger side too. I've had a PS leak, and its rusted just forward of it.... my tow hook is only there for decoration, now.

Question for you guys who live in the rust belt. Is POR 15 even worth mentioning? I live in Ca so rust is not a problem on the bottom of the truck but cheap paint job from factory has the roof rusting.
