Gotta have 4 doors..... Rawhide, TOTY 2023!
Think I ran across my Dad's old '75 GMC Sierra Classic pickup at the Conroe swap meet. It appears to be a vendor's truck, but they weren't there to ask. Mom sold it several years ago, to a guy in Conroe, and it probably has changed hands since then.
He bought his truck new in July '75 at Lester Goodson Pontiac/GMC in what was then far north Houston. C15, 350 4barrel QJ, TH350 trans and probably 3.08 or 3.23 gears. He started fixing it up almost immediately, like you'd expect a young guy to do with his first new vehicle. Western aluminum spoker wheels, some debadging, aftermarket stereo with 8 track player, and deluxe chrome bumpers with the black pads. This was the square body version of the rub strips on our trucks' bumpers.
Some of the debadging was, the '74 GMC deluxe tailgate trim doesn't have the big GMC emblem on it, because those letters are embossed on the upper left hand corner of the tailgate (that year only!) So he bought the '74 trim panel and put it on the '75 gate; instant no emblem! Guy across from my booth had one of those gates....
Also he bought new Chevy cab corner trim pieces, ground the bowtie out of them, filled and repainted the square emblem in the primary body color of Willoway Green. I've never seen another truck that had this done!
So... when I saw this truck, it's gotta be at least part of our old one. Our truck had dual tanks and this one doesn't, but the fender could have been replaced. The inspection sticker is for 1979 which is the last time it was on the road(wrecked in May of that year, busted stuff in the front end, and it was parked until the sale). If I see it again, I would like to talk to the current owner about this truck; I have some good memories of being with my dad in it.
