Think I ran across my Dad's old '75 GMC Sierra Classic pickup at the Conroe swap meet. It appears to be a vendor's truck, but they weren't there to ask. Mom sold it several years ago, to a guy in Conroe, and it probably has changed hands since then.
He bought his truck new in July '75 at Lester Goodson Pontiac/GMC in what was then far north Houston. C15, 350 4barrel QJ, TH350 trans and probably 3.08 or 3.23 gears. He started fixing it up almost immediately, like you'd expect a young guy to do with his first new vehicle. Western aluminum spoker wheels, some debadging, aftermarket stereo with 8 track player, and deluxe chrome bumpers with the black pads. This was the square body version of the rub strips on our trucks' bumpers.
Some of the debadging was, the '74 GMC deluxe tailgate trim doesn't have the big GMC emblem on it, because those letters are embossed on the upper left hand corner of the tailgate (that year only!) So he bought the '74 trim panel and put it on the '75 gate; instant no emblem! Guy across from my booth had one of those gates....
Also he bought new Chevy cab corner trim pieces, ground the bowtie out of them, filled and repainted the square emblem in the primary body color of Willoway Green. I've never seen another truck that had this done!
So... when I saw this truck, it's gotta be at least part of our old one. Our truck had dual tanks and this one doesn't, but the fender could have been replaced. The inspection sticker is for 1979 which is the last time it was on the road(wrecked in May of that year, busted stuff in the front end, and it was parked until the sale). If I see it again, I would like to talk to the current owner about this truck; I have some good memories of being with my dad in it.

That's really cool! And the truck is still in great shape. Since I love everything lime green, this truck to me awesome! Hope you get to talk to the owner at some point.

Funny, I never heard of debadging in the 70’s, of course I never owned a new vehicle then either. Could you see the vin?
No I couldn't. But I do see the vendor pass with the space number, so I might be able to get the guy who puts on the meet, to give me some contact info.
IIRC from the parts house days, the GM truck vin's were under the dash pad on the earlier square bodies. Wasn't till '79 that the pads had a notch to see the VIN....
And my dad grew up in the 50s reading every custom car magazine he could get his hands on, so he would've probably called it "shaving the emblems". The neat thing to me, is that so many of the parts to do this were available at the dealership parts department, and not super expensive then.

saw this one on reddit. cool looking truck especially the flat bed but with the aftermarket fender flares and whatever emblem the person put on the front quarter panel it makes it look like a 90s ford since it has the WT front end.
Interesting, that truck appears to be in Iceland!
Another case of "400s are bad and worldwide"!

Another weird thing about this truck: those hubcaps are '70 Monte Carlo deluxe caps, that were color matched to the car they were on originally. These are the olive green metallic that was a popular color on those cars. And I used to have a set of these, in this color, plus one extra that I still have. I sold those caps several years ago, at a swap meet.... maybe to whoever has this truck now.

Here's some rides I saw at the yard today. The orange car is a '36? Plymouth with a big block Mopar engine in it.
There's a bunch of 400s in the South Park, and South Acres neighborhoods on the way to that yard, one on almost every block. Those aren't areas where one indiscriminately takes pictures though.....

Today's catches....
Teal truck is in Bellaire close to Meyerland Plaza, white Burb is in traffic in Bellaire, and the group shot is at my Heights store. The beat up one was next to us in traffic, almost to home.
