Here is a question for you paint guys!

I am awaiting the arrival of my cowl hood from ebay and I was wondering......

If the E-coat is close enough to a factory black can I just get it sprayed with clear coat and it will work out ok? Or am I way off?

Thanks

Paul

Even if it is close.... no. not if you want it to look good or last at all.

doubt me all you want, I'm just some ******* on the internet. lol

Basically because the e-coat's purpose in life is just to prevent rust. It isn't a finish that will look good, it won't last, and at minimum you would have to prep the e-coat to clear it, and I don't think it is anywhere near thick enough. If it weren't the hood, a part that sees both a lot of sun, and a lot of debris, then maybe you could get a decent result out of it... I just wouldn't try it.

That's what I got from researching a little. It's really thin, and also the e-cost isn't made to chemically adhere to clear coat like base cost paint is, so the bond would be weak.
