I'm sticking with my 5.7 for as long as it lives. Literally going to drive it till it dies. Sure, I may try to get some more power out of it (just saw some headman shorty headers on CL for $150 :hmm:), but I don't NEED 550 hp. What does that do for you? Gives you more tickets. 350-400 hp would seem about right to me, anything more than that is asking for trouble. Sure, someday I may look at building a big motor, but not on a daily.

If you're so hellbent on having a carbureted engine, you CAN get a carb intake for an LS engine. :puke:  A stock 6L LQ4 with a mild cam, stocks heads, etc and a proper stall speed converter with little tuning will net over 400hp to the wheels, and run rings around either of those big blocks. :roflmao: Total hp means nothing in the face of less weight and a **** ton more mechanical advantage. :read: Did I mention it'd be cheaper? Lolz

Run rings around a proper built 427?!?!, Get out of town

Im talking a 427 with rec. port heads (1970 LS6 454), single plane intake, 292 cam, TRW pistons.... Its my dads old combo, and should net close to 500HP

im with this guy..... LS is the only way to go!!! you can do it cheap "IF" you do your home work... ive been looking at doing the LS swap for 2 years now the biggest cost is finding a good motor to start with... around here they go for $800 to $1500 complete

so a good built BBC $6000+ 600hp
a mild built LS 6.0 with L92 heads, cam, tune $3000 550hp

but this the weight of the BBC the LS will walk all over the BBC oh oh oh and get 20mpg doing it lol

:whyme:

My dad is a BBC NUT, everything is coming from his old parts, hes going 8-71

There is NOTHING like the torque of a built big block! NOTHING!!! Skin on your face pulling back, eyeballs sucked to the back of your skull, heart pounding in your chest, & that hundred $ bill on the dash that you know your passenger CAN'T reach! Heaven & Hell on wheels! I REALLY miss mine, but not the mileage!

Not to mention, the kit to put a carb on a LS is about $600, and IF i went LS, it would be EFI.

Its just not the direction im going with this truck, LS is cool for a big power DD, but im building a Street/Strip truck.

It's a new game show.

My dad is a BBC NUT, everything is coming from his old parts, hes going 8-71

Did an interior on a '35 Chevy p/u. Steel body, chopped 4", fiberglass fenders, 468, 2 1050 dominators, 8-71 22% overdriven(!), powerglide, 3.55's in a 9", 33" wide tires. When I work on stuff like this, one of the stipulations of the job is that, I GET TO GO FOR A RIDE!!!
WOW, OMFG, WOW!!!
I like your dad's old skool rules.

damn that sounds NASTY!

Yea my dad has been into muscle cars is whole life, he has owned over 10 70-73 Firebirds, He now has a 1969 Camaro, we took out the 427 cause it needs a rebuild, soo he said **** it, if im going to do it up, might as well go big.

Right now the car has a 396 (Actually a .030 402) out of his old 1972 GMC, has a Comp XE268H and roller rockers, very mild, he does not like it, the old 427 was soo lopey the whole car would move.

and he has a spare 454 block, and a fresh 396 crank, so when the 427 comes apart, i get all his old stuff.

Square port (or rectangular, either/or) heads also came on the L-78 Nova's, Camaro's, & Chevelle's. 396/375 hp. Same valve train as the LS6, same comp. ratio. Same cam & carb.(780 cfm., Vac. secondaries, center hung float bowls) Only diff. between them is the bore & stroke. The 454's cubes absorb some of the cam shaft, at an idle. They rumble, 396's crackle. In '65, the only year that Corvettes came with the 396/L-78 option, it was rated @ 425hp. It's the same as the other L-78's, part# for part#, just rated lower for 'insurance purposes'.
