I have a 1996 K1500 with a 5.7 (L31) engine. I’m trying to determine whether the engine has been replaced with a new crate motor. I removed the alternator bracket to inspect the stamping pad bad can’t see any numbers. On the back of the block (drivers side) I see the GM 5.7 LG with SMCI under it. 10243880 is on the passenger side, rear bellhousing flange. Towards the middle of the rear flange I see “H269” with a clock. Would this represent H=August? 26= 26th? And the 9= 1999 or 2009? If the 9 represents 2009 it’s obviously a newer crate motor since they quit using them prior to that. If it represents 1999 and the truck is a 1996 it’s either a 1999 used engine from something else or a crate motor built in 1999. Am I correct?
Thanks,
Larry
