I am havin some tranny issues and I'm pretty sure its my Torque Converter giving it up. My 4L60E shifts into OD but then bucks and shudders with the slightest of acceleration. I did the "press the brake while your in OD" trick and the TC will unlock just as its supposed to.

So my question is this. Is there a way to disable overdrive or the torque converter until I can get this fixed? My Yukon is my daily driver and I have a 25 mile highway commute everyday. I know I can run in 3rd gear, but I'd prefer to not run 70 mph at 2600 rpms.

Any advice is apprciated!

Drop it into 3rd instead if d when you drive. By the way where in east Texas are you?

Thanks for the reply. That's what I'm doing for the time being. To tell you the truth I don't like how the OD engages at such low speeds/rpms. OD at 40 mph is just silly to me.

I'm in Longview, which is about 2 hours East of Dallas near the Louisiana line. I see you're in Nacogdoches. I spent 7 of the best years of my life in Nac. Went to college at SFA.

I'm having the same issue (not so much buch and shudder). the only thing I can think of is adding a delay switch after the pcm as to when the converter locks, or sending the 'brakes on' signal via toggle switch, i've been driving in 3rd then shifting up to OD after 50-60mph.

What year truck are we talking here, East? You can do this on ODB1 trucks, but ODB2 trucks will set a code...

I have been having the same issue. I am no specialist or anything but if its the torque converter then I dont believe that running in 3rd will fix the issue since the torque converter still locks and unlocks in 3rd. I have left it in drive and I get the shudder, I have also kept it in third and the shudder still occurs when ever I moderately accelerate or drive up a grade.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been a member for a while at FSC and found out about this place over there so i thought i would check it out. I will have to get a picture added to my sig. I currently have 265/75/16 on my 98 ECSB K1500, it has 478000km(297000miles). It is still running the origional transmission, and i just had a new 4 bolt main vortec long block installed 2000km ago. I am turning into somewhat of an old man though and am planning to put 245/75/16 back on. Am I way off base with my thoughts on the torque converter or do they sound reasonable?
