Receiver behind the plate? I just want to lift my current hitch so it sits up under the rear bumper.

You didn't read that properly. He said it should mount and sit normally on a truck with a BL.
That might be a little much for me!
Yes it is, i meant the over all shape though, that is meant for a roof rack type deal and 3 ft is to long anyway probably want 1ft or 2ft. or fab up some sheet metal and punch some holes for your light of choice.
If you did go with a filler panel and possibly lights I'd recommend putting in a set of lights as auxilary back up lights (run them off a relay! don't run them straight off the factory circuit) and then wire up a toggle switch so that you can turn them on manually as well. If you want help wiring them this way I'd be willing to help you. I have a set of auxilary back up lights that I mounted on the sides of the hitch and I wired them up this way. I use them all the time when backing up (it's automatic in reverse! haha) but I used them the other day while I was unhitching a trailer at night. The way mine are wired it actually turns on the normal back up lights too.
Dude, you are the man! I have been thinking about this and looking at my hitch tonight. Aux lights would be nice because I pull a trailer just about every weekend and seeing out my back window at night is a pain already. Did you run power and ground off a toggle switch to the lights? It would be great if you could throw some ideas and pics my way if you have them. Thanks
