I assume you mean using rear axle as a front axle. Seems like an easy way to get a locking dif....

The rear axles in 4x4 and 2wd are the same generally. The "lock" we are referring too is a keyed slip ring type deal that connects one of the front drive shafts to the gears in the differential. GMT-400 never came with a true locking differential, front or rear, just a G80 that locks when your wheels really get spinning. For a locking rear diff, you need to get the locking gears from an aftermarket vender 2wd or 4x4.
