94 suburban 4x4 disengaging question

So I bought a 94 suburban with 4x4, I just wanna make sure when I take it out of 4 hi or 4 lo into 2 hi, do I have to back up 30 feet, or just go? It’s the lever and I’m used to the shifter instead of the lever

No. Don't need to back up.

What's the difference between a lever and a shifter?

Backup thing was on square bodies equipped with auto locking hubs(and solid front axle)
