Hello all!
So I picked this truck up back in June. Over 260k miles and there's a lot of work that needs to be done, but I want to know my truck inside and out and this project seemed like the perfect opportunity.
I have worked on the interior up until last month and except for the new 40-20-40 front seats (they wont be here 'till May), and a few little odds and ends (new sun visors, glove box, map/dome light cluster, etc..) the interior is done. [pics]
I am particularly pleased with the Dakota Digital VHX cluster. All wired in, calibrated and working great.
Now I'm on to the drivetrain. Tranny guy said the 4L60E is in good shape after he pulled it and checked it out (just needed a new seal)
I'm now on to buying parts for the engine. Gonna pull the whole thing and have my machine shop rebuild it with a set of new performace Vortec 906s on top from Clearwater (2.02/1.60 valves). Gonna use a Comp Cams' 12-256-4 cam. (~.440 to .450 lift, 112 LSA) Still relatively mild but should be noticeably better than factory.
I want better all around performace but torque is more important to me than power.
My first question for you guys:
I want to keep this a TBI engine (I am aware of having to buy a new intake manifold).
Am I going to need a new fuel system setup for this engine? I already plan on replacing the fuel pump but these new heads can move more air. My cam setup is relatively mild, but is the factory injector/pump/computer setup going to be the bottleneck? I want to get all the performance out of this setup that I can, and I am willing to wait to drive this thing so I can buy all the right stuff.
Anywho, any feedback will be greatly appreciated and I will have more questions for you guys as issues pop up. Thank you.
