So I have been collecting parts and rebuilding over the last 6 months for a SAS on my 1992 GMC Sierra. I've had friends go the IFS lift route and then decide to do an sas. So I decided to jump straight to a SAS. I haven't torn into the tuck yet, im just getting everything ready to do everything at once for the swap. I will try to cover all the stuff ive done so far and update along the way. Can't wait to the swap, i'm damn close to getting everything.
Overview/Plans:
Engine - crate 350 edlebrock intake, headers
Front axle - 1976 chevy flaptop dana 44 with 6 lug swap completely rebuilt
rear axle - 1996 K1500"HD" 14b sf 4:56 gears, detroit locker, new everything
Tcase - np241c from 1990 blazer bolt on SYE Flange
Trans - nv4500 swap (6.34 low gear)
Tires - 35x12.5R15 M/T MTZ's
Rims - *15x8 pro comp steelies
SAS Brackets - ORDesign sas kit
Shocks - Bilstein 5125's
Frame - off 92 C1500 new Body mounts, xmember and coil bucket delete, plated in
Couple pics of how the truck looked in the past up till now
after paint job
1976 Dana 44 from a chevy 3/4 ton. 4:56 gears, open
Knuckles milled, drilled and tapped with lifetime balljoints
WFO Concepts raised steering arm
Northwest Fabworks 1.5" x .375" wall DOM tie rod....beefy!
Hubs/rotors primed, painted. I took the spindles, hubs, locking hub and brake backing plates from a 1985 corp. 10bolt and swapped them over to the 44 to keep my 6 lug setup. I then drilled the hubs and rotors to accept Dorman#610-332 14mm studs. I used a 19/32" bit on the hubs and 41/64" on the rotors.
Ceramic high heat paint on the calipers
Everything assembled with all new bearings, seals, u joints brakes, etc.
14 bolt semi float from a 96 K1500"HD". came with 3:42 G80. upgrading to 4:56, Detroit, complete install kit and all new brake components
Bluetorch Fab 1/4" & 3/8"ring diff cover
