Differences are subtle.

Like late ones are textured, early ones are smooth finish, etc......

Cool, as many of these as i have owned/worked on, I have never noticed that.

Surprised to hear you were able to re-use the larger bezel plastic from the new handles, onto the old. Did you glue it onto the back of the handle so it wouldn't get squirmy, or hasn't been an issue?

Nope. Had to cut the little "cross strap" in the back and the handle cassette holds them in fine. Was a little bit of friggin around to get them lined up properly though.

That's what shaved doors are for.

Nope, not on a daily used truck that sees freezing winter temps that welds the doors shut every other day for 6 months!
