When I bought my truck the PO had a 5th wheel in the back. It was the sliding type. The old brackets are still welded on the frame. As long as it's not a huge 5th wheel I don't see why you can't tow with a 1/2 ton. Not all 5th wheels are huge 16k monsters as long as you're not towing over the truck ratings
I see plenty of small 5th wheel older trailers that can't weigh anymore than a standard 24 foot trailer
