1997 Chevy K1500 Automatic 4L60E 126,*** miles currently

I notice my trany shifts hard when changing gears. I heard that 4L60E is not very strong. How do I make it stronger so it dont shift hard? What years of tranys will interchange with mine?

1996-1999(obs) 4l60es will fit right in your truck, the 95 had a 1 piece trans, the 96 is when the 2 piece came out., something about a shaft that doesn't work, Im still doing my research.

Wayne (swaggerwagon) can tell you exactly what you need to know.

Sounds like the trans is on it's way out...hard shifting is usually a sign of impending failure...you need the later model 2 piece unit...the one you found is a direct replacement...

Its only noticeable on 1-2 and few to none on 2-3 shifts. What about the accumlator spring being bad? How kinda of trans kit do I need to fix the stock problems that the 4L60E had? What about a shift kit? Does the computer need reprogramed for a shift kit? I was told the trans shifts electronically.

You need to get it hooked up to a Tech II scanner, to see if your shift solenoids are working correctly.
