Yeah, Ive got the 350 vortec. Engines got power but it doesnt make it to the wheels with the 3.42s. Id like to put 4.11s on it with the 285s but I only have money for one or the other right now, and I need tires. My transmission has 20k on it since a rebuild and I dont want to f it up by straining it too much with bigger tires. Between 265 and 285 I gain about 1.2 in. in diameter, not a whole lot but it feels sluggish as it is. My last truck was a 95 2wd with 3.73s and my work truck has 4.11s so I do have a skewed perspective. Obviously my main concern is the tranny at the moment, but from yalls responses I think I should be alright until I can get 4.11s in it.

Remember if it's a 4x4 and you change finals you have to pay to do front and rear differentials or you'll be changing out the transfer case when it goes "BOOM!"

or just dont use 4 wheel. take the driveshaft front driveshaft out and drive in 4lo all the time.

Or just get a switch to turn off front actuactor and rock 2lo when you want.. that s fun. or launch really hard in 4lo.. also fun but probably hard on everything.
