1996 C1500 Manual/Standard Transmission Cross Reference for other years?

I have a 1996 c1500 with a 4.3 vortex engine.....My tranny bit the dust and I am looking in the junk yards for another. (1)What other years will work with mine? Clutch Slave on the inside and has 2 plugs for wiring on it, I am trying to stay with a standard transmission if all possible.
(2) what all is involved with going to an Auto Tranny (e.i. parts labor and tranny specifics)?

Stay manual it'll be an easier swap, you probably have the NV3500 you can get a donor from the v6 s10 and Sonoma midsize pick ups or from another gmt400
