Fleetside or Step Side Bed near the Pacific Northwest

My buddy has a 1990 stepside truck and had a tire blow out and wrecked the driver side panel on his step side. He is looking for a complete fleetside shortbox or a step side bed -- or a good replacement step side panel for the driver side. Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest would be...

Thinking of doing a Cummins swap

I can't help you with the clutch / manual transmission question but when I did my swap, I had to move the transmission back 3 inches just to get a cooling fan in there. Here is my build which might help...

Rear Air Lift Air Bag Kit Brand New p/n 57216

I looked at the directions: http://www.airliftcompany.com/content/manuals/MN-381_57216_57128.pdf The pic on the cover looks like it would but when I go further in the instructions it looks like they put a bracket inside the frame so I am guessing not.

454s - What kind of MPG are you getting?

Just FYI, with my Cummins swap I now get 16 average. Best ever was 19.9 Worst ever was 12 It has every bit of power my old 454 had (had a banks exhaust and intake) as well I still have 4.10 gears and stock tires (265 I think), with 3.73 or less it would do better as I am sitting 2100-2200 at 60

Rear Air Lift Air Bag Kit Brand New p/n 57216

I bought this kit a couple years ago but never needed it since the load levelers on my trailer worked so well. It is new in the box, although the box has been opened. I am asking $220 shipped in the lower 48. According to Air Lift, this fits all GMT400 trucks: 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton, 2WD...

454s - What kind of MPG are you getting?

I used to average 8-10 which was 70% in town. The best I ever got was 15 that was all freeway and keeping it at 60. I averaged 6 towing a ~10k trailer.

    97 chevy cummins swap

Maybe I am biased but do it. My now 120k 4L80E has held up fine behind a moderately built 6bt and it works great. I had about 6-7k into my swap but I also used a new intercooler, radiator, adapter, flexplate, etc. That includes the 2k I spent on an engine. I sold what I had from the truck...

    Towing question?

There are a couple of myths here: On converting a gasser (96 and up)... it makes sense to leave the computer since the computer runs the A/C and some other things so all you do is run the stock sending units for the gauges and they work just fine. 6.5 Diesels and 454's were equipped with the...

    First Time Towing

This is the wiring plug that I got: http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Hopkins/HM40975-11998.html I like it because it is a direct replacement for the 99 and up NBS trucks so if a problem ever arises, all you have to do is unplug it and plug a new one in. Plus it fits great in the stock location...

    Transmission temperature gauge

The pressure test port works but isn't proper, the transmission pan is where you should be getting your reading. Also, if you have a 700R4, don't use the test port because it can block fluid flow and it not recommended.

    Transmission temperature gauge

Here is a 3 pod autometer cluster on my 1996. It doesn't seem to block as much of the a-pillar blind spot that I thought it would.

I have a few 12v Cummins Swap Questions?

The 91.5-93 engines are VE pump and stone cold reliable and get excellent mileage plus they are fairly cheap to acquire The 94-98 engines are P-Pump, are also very reliable and are much easlier to build power than the VE pump. You might want to look into running a NV4500 which is a 5 speed...

    4L80E torque converter question/ concern

Iirc, there is a solenoid that tells the converter to lock up. That solenoid might commanding unlock and lock again and again. I had almost the same issue with one of the shifting solenoids, while travelling down the freeway it would command an upshift and quickly the transmission would...

Has anyone completed a 6.5 to Cummins Swap?

It has been holding up beautifully. It is original to the truck and has ~115k on it.

Has anyone completed a 6.5 to Cummins Swap?

Glow plugs you are on your own but probably similar to wiring in the grid heater on a Cummins.

Has anyone completed a 6.5 to Cummins Swap?

Yes, all of my gauges work, I just used the sending units from the 454. Since the 6.5 tach works off the alternator, as long as you run the factory one or use one with a tach signal it should work as well.
