    98 4.3 vortec 2wd and 97 5.7 vortec 4x4

I checked out how torque converters work since I come from an all manual background. I am going to have to use the converter for the v6 so it’s not a turd but everything else looks to be straight forward with the swap as far as I can tell.

    98 4.3 vortec 2wd and 97 5.7 vortec 4x4

Alright so I bought a 97 4x4 5.7 vortec today with 160k on it. I was looking at buying just an engine for a swap into my 98 4.3 vortec 2wd but decided that I would go the route of just swapping this 5.7 into my 98 and the 4.3 back into this 97 so I could have another 4x4 since I sold my Jeep and...

I like the factory Chevy center caps best I think. Personally I think that’s a good wheel for the generation before these or a muscle car. I’d have to see it on the truck to be sure really. I’m still saving at the moment so I’ve got some time to look at options. I’m rebuilding one of my...

Yeah that’s true. I’m thinking satin black, I’m not a huge fan of a lot of chrome but the accents I think will look good and the satin will match the finish on the trim. I kind of like that I can get all the bits and pieces with the wheels I found on eBay but I’ll search around and see what I...

Other opinions are always good. I was actually thinking about these in black which is what you’re saying I think? I like the look but I’ll have to save or find some other ones in good shape I can paint.

Lost a center cap earlier but the tires and the front valance look good I think. The Cragars are nice but it needs black steelies and a lowering kit for sure.

Yeah after researching more I’m thinking a 15x8 with 4” backspacing is what I’m going with. I am pretty sure my Cragars are 15x8 4.25” backspacing. I’m going to take one off and confirm that but I have brand new 275/60 15 Cooper Cobras I had put on yesterday. I think it’s the right fitment...

    Ardent Fabrication Autocross Truck

Nice! I paid $1500 for mine and I just replaced the cam position sensor and the throttle position sensor. Now I need tires because they’re gone. Eventually I want to do a 350 and a t56 swap. I need new doors to replace the rot on the bottom and that’s pretty much all there is. Then pull it apart...

I’ve been looking at Basset and Aero 15x10 wheels but can’t figure out if a 3, 4 or 5 inch backspacing would work since I can’t find an in between or other steel wheel brands. I know Ardent fab said he is running a 5/7 on a 295/60 on 15x10 -44mm offset wheels so I’m wondering if that’s a 3.25...

Yeah I liked my Jeep for the ease of engaging the 4x4 but it’s not the most comfortable ride being lifted and smaller inside. My truck is like a Cadillac and has the seats and center console that my 99 Suburban had. Thanks for the link!

    Ardent Fabrication Autocross Truck

That’s good to know. I want to be able to dive into corners without too many issues and use the truck pretty much like your videos show. I have a lowered Volkswagen truck but it’s pretty much useless for cornering or a heavy passenger, it’s all show, no go but it was an impulse purchase I guess...

Alright thanks for the reply. I’m looking at kits right now and debating on 4/6. I don’t want too low but if that’s a 5/7 roughly then maybe a 4/6 would be a good choice. Not sure 3/5 is enough but earlier today I thought it might be ha. Are you running any swaybars?

This thing is sweet! This is what I want to do with mine what drop are you running roughly, I know you said you cut the front coil?

Does anyone happen to know anything about Cragar wheels? I’m curious to find out the width, offset and backspace on these wheels so I can replace them with some black D-windows or similar wheels. I’m looking at a 3/5 drop, I think that will work with the square setup, as the right one for me...

That sounds like a sweet rig, I prefer manual myself. I’m about 45 minutes northwest of Grand Rapids.

Thanks! Good to be here hoping to get this thing looking good within the next few months so it’s good to find a forum with a lot of useful info on everything I want to do. Although some of it will take longer, like engine and trans swap, but I can make it look good relatively easy and fix the...

Hi just signed up. I have a dark green 98 shortbox 2wd. It’s pretty clean for a Michigan truck, very minimal rust. It’s a 4.3 auto but that’s ok for now. I have been looking at lowering it since I bought it last fall and now that I sold my Jeep I’m going to start dailying it. I’m picking up new...
