How would you make a TBI 454 as analog as possible?

Keep a spare module in a Faraday cage then. ;)

How would you make a TBI 454 as analog as possible?

If you have your heart set on it, it's not that hard. I'd start with an older manual trans TBI truck though. I retrofitted my 89 small block truck and it was easy. You'll need an HEI, intake and carb, return style regulator, and some planning. BTW, I'm running a carbed TBI 454 in my 69...

Wheels stick out to far for PA.

I believe you are allowed up to a 3" flare and no tire past that here in PA. It looks like you'll need a different offset to be legal.

Still undecided about a cam for my 5.7

Just my opinion, but if you are going to the trouble of swapping cams, I'd start with something like a ZZ4 takeout cam. Just watch the lift, guide clearance, and use the proper springs. The LT1 cam I used (from a 95 F body) was an improvement, but a few months later I wanted more. My current...

Need help finding a new radiator

I compared the copper/brass one from my 69 Chevelle to the aluminum one in my 89 stepside, and aside from the filler neck being shorter, it's a direct swap. This was for the big block SS-396 three core radiator.

Ebay SS shorty headers 350 TBI

Why not just go with long tube headers then while you are at it. There's always something better. All these $100 Chinese ebay shorty headers are restrictive. A quick look up into the collector will show you that your Y pipe won't be the problem. They are just a convenient, cheap, emission...

Ebay SS shorty headers 350 TBI

Mine are ebay stainless. They are the ones with the stock type ball flange that bolts right up to the factory Y pipe. Keep in mind that some of the ebay headers require collector adapters to be welded into your exhaust.

Ebay SS shorty headers 350 TBI

I have had the stainless ones on the ZZ4 in my truck for a few years now with no problems. They still look good!

    fast taurus fan question

You can use the plugged bung in the water jacket on the passenger head or get a thermostat housing that has a bung for a sensor and add one there. It'll reflect the temp more accurately.

Installing new radiator. what else should i change?

I looked at the one from my 69 Chevelle, and it's a drop-in fit in these trucks. It's copper/brass, and the only difference is the filler neck is shorter. It's a 3 core big block radiator. I changed out everything with coolant in it except for the overflow bottle. Radiator, heater core...

Coolant reservoir empty but radiator is full?

I replaced my heater core, radiator, radiator hoses, cap, heater hoses, thermostat, and overflow hose. I did it when I did the engine swap just to make everything fresh. The only thing I didn't replace was the overflow tank. I filled it to the cold line, and it stays there, maybe drops a...

Replacing Valve Covers...are these any good?

I know you said you wanted to keep it stock, but for a few bucks more, you can get some aluminum ones and paint them to match. I got these from ebay for about 80 bucks.

The Official Way to Improve Gas Mileage and Use Less Gas Thread

A vacuum gauge is a great way to improve mileage. It'll teach you to control your right foot. It's amazing how a little throttle movement has a big impact on mileage. Keep the needle as high as possible, and your mileage will go up. Back in the 70's they came factory installed in some cars...

    need some help.

Without a return line, you will burn your pump up fast. Use a return style regulator, you are already plumbed for it. The pink wire from the TBI ignition is all you need to power the HEI. If you aren't using the ECM, You'll need to modify the fuel pump wiring circuit with a momentary switch...

Do y'all think the brand of motor oil really matters?

I'm sold on Mobil 1. I had my 93 Camaro since new, and ran only Mobil 1 in it, changing it every 5K miles or so.. I had a valve cover off to get some clearance for header installation, which is the first time it's ever been opened, and this is what I found. It still has 25# of pressure at...

    What oil filter?

Yeah, I didn't have an oil cooler, just 4x4. Just a side note, the 454 I pulled out of a Suburban has a 90* adapter, but it takes a larger diameter filter. Just throwing it out there in case someone wants to retain the stock setup but run a larger diameter filter. I think the SB and BB are...

throttle body to carb on a 94

Search here for the same thing. I think if you just unplug the TBI, you can still run the efi dist if you put a TPS on the carb and shifting isn't affected.

    Stock/OEM Seat covers?

www.leatherseats.com does nice work. I got my leather for my 93 Camaro from there, $800 front and back. Very high quality stuff too. If you don't see your setup listed, it might be worth making a call directly to them. I was lucky my GMT400 has a bench seat. Stock vinyl upholstry was only...

    What oil filter?

Yeah, I looked for that one, but Pep Boys doesn't have WIX. After seeing all that room, I'm going to find that one next time. I'd feel better between oil changes with a longer filter.

    What oil filter?

Looks like I could go bigger, but there's plenty of room with a pf-454. I got a royal purple equivalent because it is a better filter, and there's tons of room with the vertical adapter. Here's a comparison between a PF35, PF1218, and a 454. The 454 is right around three inches. The PF454...

    What oil filter?

I'm doing an engine swap now, and I'm thinking of using the standard vertical adapter that was in my Chevelle, along with a PF454 filter. The filter is the replacement for the old PF25, but it's only 3.2" high. Has anyone actually measured the clearance from the block to the front shaft? I'd...

    Sealing transfer case question. RTV

Well, I got it cleaned up and back together, but I'm still not sure about something else. There seems to be some play associated with the syncro setup. While turning the shafts by hand it clunks a bit when the front shaft is engaged. I took it apart and can see the fingers on the brass syncro...
