Hey Admins and feedback from others...

I just replied to a thread and I had a full page ad pop up on my laptop screen 3 times while writing my short reply. Is this a new thing? Can we get rid of it? I am already annoyed by the minimal ads that pop up as it is but full-page ones that block the whole screen is a bit overboard.

Has anybody else had this experience?

Haven't seen an ad on this site (or most others) in many years. Been running Adblock on Chrome.. now I'm playing around more with Firefox and haven't seen any, either.

Some overly-intrusive full page ad like you're describing sounds more like malware than "legit" advertising associated with a forum.

Hello @RichLo,

I can second Richard's observations. This site is currently running clean, fast, & ad free using Firefox on my Windows 10 laptop.

From past experience the behavior that you are describing is usually attributed to malware that's inserted itself into your browser?
One of the things I like most about FF is that they have a feature where you can return your browser back to it's original, as-distributed
state very simply, making for quick & decisive troubleshooting. (I've had to use this feature maybe once or twice over several years of daily
use, and both times it eradicated the unexpected funkiness.)

Also scan your machine for malware, and it never hurts to periodically clear any/all local software caches, which can get jammed up with
internet detritus, either on accident or on purpose.

Once you sort this out, please let us know what it took to restore the correct forum experience.

Cheers --

I use an ad blocker extension when using the internet. Don't know of many people who don't these days.

I use Firefox browser and the uBlock Origin extension. Never see any ads when browsing this forum.

I use Firefox browser and the uBlock Origin extension.

I've used this combo for years now and I don't think there's anything better available.

As an added bonus, uBlock Origin will catch and eliminate ads embedded in streaming video sites like YouTube and Hulu. Plus, any extension that runs on the Desktop version of Firefox will also run on their mobile browsers.

As a result, you can watch YouTube videos and similar in the web browser of your computer OR phone with no ads!

It sounds like you have a virus.

I run Ubuntu, mostly because it's free, but also because any time a Linux virus is found, 10,000 nerds get pissed off and fix the vulnerability. Between Ubuntu, Firefox, and uBlock Origin, I haven't had a problem with malicious content in over a decade.

I'm also a financial supporter of the forum because I'm on it pretty frequently and I know my ad-blocker hurts the ad income that sponsors it.
