BUT, how often do you really change your transmission fluid and how much are you really $aving with Hygard? Just seems like using what’s recommended an easier choice.

I can see a dedicated-purpose / special-purpose transmission, e.g., one used for drag racing (or whatever), where it's easy and cheap to use any old hydraulic fluid.
But for -30F to 120F ambient conditions, all types of driving, 30kmi-50kmi (or more) oil change intervals... why not use the stuff the Gods intended.
I can't imagine the Deere stuff has the friction modifiers and pour point depressors / viscosity modifiers (to name a few) that are beneficial to an automatic operating in a broad range of conditions.
Yeah, Hygard may be good stuff (we use it in our Deere equipment) but...
