I bought a 1995 GMC C1500. I noticed an issue with the turn signal and hazard lights not working correctly. The issue was the turn signals only work when the hazard switch is depressed. When the hazard switch is not depressed the hazard lights come one only when the brake is depressed. I have since bought and installed a new multifunction switch and hazard relay. The same issue persists. My next adventure is going to the brake switch to see if this cures the issue. I have checked the fuse on the drivers side dash and the under the hood. Both are good. I am also wondering if the issue could be un the steering column under the steering wheel?

Then you can learn a lot with having the correct information to use. In a sticky above there is thread for the free OE service manuals downloads. You can get your year the real deal not generic crap manuals. That have all the information and wire digrams, look routing, ground locations. With that and the brain trust in here you can be way ahead of the game.

When the hazard switch is not depressed the hazard lights come one only when the brake is depressed.

Can you elaborate on this? How would the hazard lights flash if the switch is off?

Are you saying that the brake lights flash when you depress the brake pedal?

If you do activate the hazards, they operate the same bulb filiment as the brakes and will stop flashing when you step on the brake.

So, without pressing the hazard button the turn signals will not work but when I press the brake pedal the hazards come on but are not blinking. If I press the hazard button and the hazard lights do not blink but at this point the turn signals work. I don't know how else to explain it.

The reason for checking grounds is that it is to help complete circuit(s). If a circuit cannot get a ground where it is supposed to, it will look elsewhere and ground thru something else and then that can effect when things/circuits work because the ground may be complete only when something else is on/activated.

Yup! Electricity is not really magical, it just seems like it sometimes.
