I've been running some cheap Amazon LEDs in my Tahoe for a few months now. I took a lot of time to aim the headlights lower (no idea if they were correct before). No one has flashed their brights at me since doing it and in comparison, I used to get flashed constantly when driving my totally stock Jeep Gladiator with factory LEDs.

Only reason for doing it is because my son drives it and he's a new driver and he was saying he flat out could not see at night.

I've had HIDs in my 1500 since 2009 and I never get flashed. Pretty sure if they were as evil as folks made them out to be, I'd at least get flashed once in a blue moon. A sample size of 14 years seems legit to me. Dually has LEDs with the Brazilian housings and I've never been flashed in it either.

The bolded part I quoted from you above is the only misinformation in this thread.

If you would like to be introduced to the person whose vision has been impaired I can introduce you. You are not a medical doctor and, even if you were, you have not examined the patient. He has a diagnosis from an ophthalmologist who has examined his eyes.
You have no idea if I'm an MD, but I wouldn't need to be to know an LED headlight is incapable of producing enough light to permanently damage an otherwise normal and healthy eye.
Do not twist my words. I did not say all LED light was inherently bad. I implied LED headlights were inherently dangerous.
An implication without supporting evidence. Misinformation.
This implication is confirmed by at least one confirmed case of permanent vision impairment.
Confirmed by confirmation? Okay buddy.
I have never stated that all LED headlights will blind everyone who comes near them.
Your implication was that they are capable of exactly that.
However, they have definitely caused permanent injury to one person.
That's not how causality works. Good try though.
I enjoy my vision and would like to keep it. I would also like my choice of headlight to not be the cause of another person's vision loss. In the spirit of helping my fellow man, I share an experience that, however uncommon, is real. If reading this can help even person avoid causing or experiencing permanent vision damage I will consider my effort well-spent.
Here your implication is clear, if I choose LED headlights to help me see and drive my family safely my effort is not well spent? Interesting...
You are welcome to walk onto any dealer lot with a 2024 model year car that has LED headlights, ask the salesman to turn the bright lights on, and kneel down in front of those headlights with your eyes wide open, and stare into that light as long as suits you. For best effect, you should position your eyes so that they are in line with the most intense light output.
Yeah, because that's exactly the same as driving towards a car with LED headlights...besides according to you, it "only takes a second".
I would not choose to do this, but it is a free country and you are free to choose your own path.
You're correct here. I will choose to research and inform my decisions with what that research shows. Which, in this case, is that LED headlights are incapable of causing the injuries you claim. Imagine the lawsuits that would have been filed if they were...

IIRC, lumens drop with the square of the distance. It would therefore seem to take a sheetload of light to permanently blind someone at normal vehicle distances.
Like the amount in a nuclear reaction?
The whole premise that LED headlights can cause permanent impairment to otherwise healthy eyes is ridiculous.

I have no idea, but I would bet it's way more than you can get from 12 volts and single digit amps (if that much).

Still, the lights are too freaking bright. I think a significant part of the problem is that people want to adapt the light to them instead of adapting themselves to the light in the environment.

Turn down your dashboard lights to the lowest point where you can easily read them. Turn off any other lights in your cab. If you have to put a piece of scotch tape over your stereo lights to dim them, do it. Avert your gaze from bright lights. If there's a big sign with flashing lights, don't look at it. If there's a driver coming the other way with bright lights, look to the side of the road and use your peripheral vision to watch where you're going, preserving the more concentrated photo receptors in your line of sight for scanning the road ahead after the car passes. If there's a car ahead of you, what can you see in their headlights?

Stop trying to light up the world. Learn to use the light that's already there.

Mom told me to never look into the sights of the sun but mama that's where the fun is. That's where I wanted to go. I wanted to be blinded by the light”
