Here's an update, I swapped back to my new fuel injector pack, swapped back to the new cam sensor and while I was at it I tightened up the shaft in the new distributor thinking that under load the rotor may be rising up out of the gap in the sensor just enough to mess with the signal. The after market dizzy had close to 1/8th inch play up/down that translated into a pretty good timing change (when you lift/drop the rotor with it installed in the engine it turns slightly). I put it in my press and pushed the rotor mounting flange (pressed fit) down on the shaft until I reduced the up/down play to more like 1/16th inch so it will still get lubrication but cut down on the amount of timing change.
I also installed an Accel coil (supposedly a hotter spark than stock).
I still don't see any change in the misfires, but I still don't have any codes.
I guess the next step is to replace the already new plug wires with the best that money can buy and see what happens.

Just to recap:
new long block (5.7 Vortec)
the cam timing is set at zero like it's supposed to be
I've tried two different types of spark plugs
I've swapped two new caps/rotors and several spark plug wires
3 different coils
two EGR valves tried
two different fuel injector spiders
swapped MAF sensors with another truck as well as MAP sensor, ignition module, coil.
compression is good
All of the cylinders that miss are on the front half of the engine, also the front half of the injector pack.
