My 1994 Chevy k1500 5.7 auto trans is having a problem with my blinkers. When I use my blinkers the throttle will Accelerate by itself without me pushing on the gas pedal. It does not do it all the time just when it wants to I guess. Any ideas on what I should look at first? Thanks!

Do you have cruise control? If you do my guess would be the resume/accelerate wire is shorting out & causing the cruise to engage. Try removing the cruise fuse and see if it stops.

Any chance it does it only when the cruise control is on? Never heard of this problem before, but stands to reason that the cruise control is on the turn signal stalk, could be a damaged harness sending signal to the wrong circuit?

I’m going to chime in here, when my truck got stolen and recovered after a couple of days, several years ago, I had to replace the column with a junkyard pull due to all the damage that was done from “clacking” open the column. I swapped over all of the switches from my old column because the junkyard ones were crap. Since then everything worked fine except that when I use the cruise control and flip the left turn signal on the cruise control pops off. I know I have a short somewhere in the column but I just chalk it up to a quirk of the truck.

I will add this, may help. I had a ‘94 S-10 Blazer I bought brand new, automatic, tilt wheel, cruise control. After 15 years, the brake lights would not work when the tilt wheel was in the upper positions. On the S- Blazer I would always put the wheel up in the top position whenever I got out of it. My wife put it down when she drove it. I guess after 15 years of that, the wire harness must have gotten a worn spot in it. So I pulled the steering wheel off and took the switch loose but not out and just pulled the slack out of the harness. I looked and felt all up and down the harness and could not find a bare spot. So before I put it back together, I took some black tape and started wrapping the wire harness from the top down. When I got to the point that I could not reach it anymore I took a long thin screwdriver and half-assed finished it. I put it back together and voila, no more problem. I ran it another 5 years with no problems. May work for yours too. The hardest part is pulling the wheel. Wouldn’t really cost you anything.

I have narrowed it down to it does only do it when the cruise control is in the on position, but my cruise control does not work.

Perhaps that is why the cruise control doesn't work. Does it do it with only one turn signal, or both? Do your turn signals work when this is happening? I'd inspect the harness for the wiring from the turn signal stalk. Double check by measuring resistance across the wires. You'll want to look up the wiring diagram so you know what each one does, you're looking for continuity between the turn signal(s) and the accelerate wires. Check both sides of the harness, the problem is on the side that shows something other than infinite resistance. If it's on the turn signal stalk side, you can replace the stalk, or you can inspect the wiring for damage, possibly do some surgery to replace damaged wire.

It does it with both sides. I’m not really worried about the cruise control working or not because I don’t really care for it. Yes The blinkers still work when it happens.

I mean, if you don't care, you can just keep the cruise control off, or remove the cruise control cable from the throttle body. If you plan on selling it, or want it to work correctly, it's probably the turn signal stalk, test and replace.
