I recognize that car from LS1Tech landstuhltaylor. I've never seen a catastrophic failure at an autox event. You making 400+ hp on sticky tires or something? My 260whp hasn't hurt anything in my 5 years of road racing. Even the American Iron guys running ~360whp in a 4th gen aren't ******** driveline left and right and they get beat on for 30 minutes straight. A lot do still run the measley 10 bolt. In the case of the aforementioned Honda, that thing definitely doesn't make enough power or grip to hurt itself. I obviously can't refute what you've seen, but I can say that that's not the same as what I've seen.

As for what I've towed lately? The Red Dragon V2.0.

It's a V6 tub, no rust no wrecks. Body isn't perfect, but the metal is a lot straighter than mine. I'm gonna drop in my aluminum 5.3 and convert a C6 Corvette transmission over to use in this turd so I can have sweet triple cone syncros. That'll require a custom main shaft from G Force along with their short 5/6 gears. Eventually it will replace my LT1 powered CMC car. At the moment though, the hangar is full. That sure didn't take long.

It's a stock long block 98 LS1 and was making 370whp at the time, should be over 400 this year. All that getting sent through a 7.25" 19lb clutch/flexplate assembly to the 10 bolt with a really short torque arm that distorts the housing. A7s don't hook for crap either as it's never gone better than a 2.2 60ft at Pros. Road racing won't kill a 10 bolt. Dropping a clutch with no inertia at 4000rpm will. It's getting one of the last T2Rs still around for this next season with a fresh gearset. The complete Truetrac and gears will stay in the truck in case it breaks.

When you get into pointy end SP cars and up they just break after a few years. Watched a ~250whp E46 330C peel the stock driveshaft like a soda can after years of abuse. Other cars are just so far beyond what a stock car is capable of that they start ripping subframe mounts out. Yeah, his car isn't developed to the point of a grenade with the pin pulled, but old cars with neglected maintenance break too. Usually something like a ball joint or radiator failure but still it happens.

You said it right there and I never clarified: it's the pointy end where stuff starts breaking. Even the Mustangs have torque box issues in my class so they're allowed to mod that. My trans tunnel has a crack and it's common to rip thetnuts out of the trans mount in the chassis. We do standing starts too, but the launches are nothing like a drag launch even on Toyo RRs which are slower than the hoo hoos. Do you have a decoupled torque arm or just a shorter one that attaches somewhere other than the trans?

Decoupled. The failures were both on concrete airports out here in Ohio at consecutive ProSolos. The year before my stock E46 M3 would run 1.9 60fts all day long once it got rubbered in so it at least is somewhat similar to a prepped drag strip launch.

Anyway, to keep it on topic I do need to figure out an intermittent 4th gear miss with the truck. Seems to happen when I roll out of the throttle and almost feels like a rough TC lockup. Gave a TPS voltage error once when it was really bad but a replacement sensor didn't fix it. Guess it will be a spring time project now that the service manuals have been posted on here. I know they weren't available when I was looking at them before.

4L80 unlocks when you lift unlike the 4L60, gotta wonder if that isn't playing into it.

a k2500 burban with a 2500eclb. Plenty of umph, but the trailer I used sat a bit high and she got a lil fishtaily over 50. Its kind of difficult to drive under 55 on the interstate.
