    ECM question...

something else you may try is a C.A.S.E. relearn. Tech2 can do it, EFI live on newer ECMs but i don't think the 96-97 black box is supported.... especially after an ECM swap, it's highly suggested.

    Towing Mirrors

Here's one pic I have of mine... I hate to hijack, but does anyone know where to get a replacement convex mirror for one? I knocked the driver's side out of mine recently, and would prefer not to replace the whole mirror when just the lens shattered.

    Solid94's Build Thread

I'm currently in Redwood City for work this week and saw a SFA White GMT400 while walking to work. I actually thought to myself, I wonder if this guy is on this site. Sure enough! Nice looking truck for sure!!!

I'd have to believe so. A 2400 stall gets you a lot closer to the torque peak of 2800 (stock L31).

    Vortec 8.1?

oh believe you me, i realize this.... and no, my swap will not involve a half or 3/4 ton truck.

Personally, I'd be leery of a junkyard converter for the sole reason of you're not sure what it went through, and what's in the fluid in the converter. If the price is an extra 150 bucks, for example, it's much more worth it for me than having to pull the trans a 2nd time to replace a shot...

    Vortec 8.1?

Simple, dare to be different. Also, I've heard reports of oil consumption being pulled way back when running a lower temp thermostat (180 degree). and the old boy saying, 'A little smoke means it has good lubrication!' Hell, even the oil consumption of it will be significantly less than the...

Yup, go to the local GM dealership, get a factory part. I bought my last fuel lines that way and it was very comparable to buying aftermarket lines. It's not often you hear of a factory converter failing. I found some random places selling gm converters for 150-200 bucks, but give the parts...

    Vortec 8.1?

1st, from the factory they were only drive by wire engines. a) install a dbw pedal from a 6.5 diesel truck, b) make a gmt800 pedal for dbw fit, or c) run a custom OS through EFI live to make it cable driven. The factory also put them in 2001 3500HD trucks on a gmt400 platform with an i-beam...

I've heard a lot about guys running the converter from a 4.3 v6 behind even stock 350s and having noticeable increases in stall speed. Just a way to use factory parts, retain stock lockup characteristics, and get a bit of a gain off the line. I believe, but could be wrong, the converters...

    Air Bags

Yup, my '00 doesn't have airbags. Something in the FMVSS (federal motor vehicle safety standard) about vehicles over 8600 gvwr were exempt for a bit.

One thing you may consider if doing a converter swap is running a 4.3 converter behind the v8. GM factory parts with that quality, and typically can be had for cheaper than aftermarket units. You'll retain the factory lock-up feel, but the extra power compared to how it's set up for a 4.3...

Idle issues resolved But noticed something dusturbing...

x2 on pulling it apart. When i did intake gaskets I scrubbed everything out. I love seafoam, but I also never have dumped it into the air intake, as I don't trust chunks of stuff having the possibility of passing through the valve sealing area and combustion chambers.

    Regearing?

Probably the cheapest way to regear is find someone selling an axle that bolts in with the gearing you want. Otherwise, it seems shops in the Detroit area sometimes charge ~500 bucks, +- 200. Knowing what the truck is used for helps a lot in gear selection. If you ever pull anything, you'll...
