It does sound a bit different not going to lie. Similar sound but not exact sameYour problem doesn't sound like his. agree not likely starter.
It should be totally full. It doesn’t leak and it was just filled with fresh fluid 6 months ago when I put a used transmission in. But will check still for the level and color to be sure. When you get under it, if you do, pull the t-case fill plug and reach in for a sample of fluid and how full it is.
I hope it is easy to pinpoint! Hopefully it doesn’t get to the point of draining the transmission and tcase to look for metal flakes. If the transfer case is causing that noise, it is likely gonna have some metal flake in the fluid. But, I would also expect some noise when maintaining speed in gear and not just on accel. Who knows though. Gotta check it all till you find the source and not assume. That noise should be easy to pinpoint though.
It’s just kind of hard also to check the transmission etc. I feel like not in all cases will there be metal flakes or shavings. I sure hope that I can find it and don’t have to fold and take it to a shop for diagnostic. If the transfer case is causing that noise, it is likely gonna have some metal flake in the fluid. I can guarantee you that if your gear train in the trans is breaking up, piles of broken gear teeth will be at the bottom of the pan. Like others have said, don't assume/expect - inspect. It’s just kind of hard also to check the transmission etc. I feel like not in all cases will there be metal flakes or shavings. Yeah that’s true, I don’t want to just throw parts at it. So as much as I don’t want to waste money by draining the transmission and transfer case to possibly find nothing it will still help to diagnose the source of the noise. The fluid will tell you a lotI can guarantee you that if your gear train in the trans is breaking up, piles of broken gear teeth will be at the bottom of the pan. It shouldn't be too hard to find the source of the sound.
