The electrics did not pull as much CFM as the mechanical I am running. Even at idle the mechanical pulls more cfm.
Your just making a blind comparison. Not all fans are equal. Be them mechanical, are electric. I simply can not make it any planer than I have. If you are so blinded and limited to what you have seen, and your own experience, then oh well. As a wise man once said, the average man, learns from his own mistakes, the wise man learns from the mistakes of others. If it works for you, then use it, but that doesn't mean it rite for everyone else. Personally, I have tried a 5 blade fan, an 11 blade fan, both mechanical, and the electric fans I have been having for over 5 years now. I would never use a mechanical fan again,,,,NEVER!!!!!. I was involved in an air flow and supply fan project, offshore, on air supply for an intrinsically safe environment. We did a lot of research on air flow. What works, and what doesn't, and why. It is as simple as I said before. The correct set up, will out perform the incorrect set up. There are many factors involved in this equation. But simply put, more air flow, equals more cooling. AGAIN, IT IS THAT SIMPLY!!!!!!. YOU WILL NEVER change my mind no matter how much you try and argue that a mechanical fan is better. The OP wanted to know about how to install an electric fan. Not why you think the suck.

I have been debating on doing this on my 2 door tahoe. I did it on my jeep years ago and it made a big difference. I used a crown vic fan. The water coming out the radiator was almost ambient temp.

This thread is getting boring, let's move to a better subject.

What is the best oil and filter for our trucks?

that could open a huge can of worms that could never be shut but I would entertain it I vote for what the oil cap says or what is in the owners manual what ever you can get with the most adatives cleaning agents and lubricants. on a joking note which ever one has the most dinosaurs and other dead things in it

I’m just legitimately trying to understand why the switch to electric. Were you guys having any overheating issues? Or just for performance?
There were only a few reasons I switched to electric. One being my experience removing threaded on fan clutches (I’ve never had the “right tools” so I guess it’s my own fault but whatever). Another being, the fan and shroud making it more time consuming when having to change a belt or front accessory. 3st point being I liked the way the engine bay looked with out the big shroud and fan. But I’ve never had mechanical fan related overheating issues.

The fact that I’ve had nothing but issues with fan controllers melting and/or failing, fan motors failing and lack of cooling performance has led me back to putting a mechanical fan back on my truck. NOTE: I’ve only used cheap* aftermarket parts store fans and controllers so that’s probably part of my problems :33:

My favorite part of those “conversations” is when people claim switching from standard to synthetic or vice-uh-vursa will cause every seal to spontaneously leak and cause catastrophic engine failure. They usually get that “information” from their grandfather that ran non-detergent sae30 in every vehicle he ever owned then complained when his new Cadillac that requires dexos 5-20 sludged up and wouldn’t be covered under warranty because those dang snakes at the dealership don’t know what they’re talking about.

I did make that switch, standard to synthetic, no leaks and dipstick level never changes.

The only time I've put an electric fan in a car, was when I was replacing an electric fan. I had an 82 Dodge Charger that had this silly two blade fan, possibly with no shroud from Chrysler. I found a slightly later car that had a much more extensive shroud and fan blade that would drop right in, and I wired it direct with 10 gauge stranded wire through a switch in the dash. I think I killed the battery a time or two when leaving it on... I was probably 20/21.

I think the attraction to electrics is a possible power advantage, the wow factor in it being a "mod", and "cleaning up" the engine bay.

I know I like my OEM electric fans in that I don't have the wind under the hood, if I'm trying to check something out. Also no spinning wheel of death if I'm poking around. No major reasons, but they are nice if implemented with the design of the car.

Oils in general have made tremendous strides since our grandfathers, so much so that even house brand oil is good for most applications. Synthetic oil is vastly superior in almost every metric. Some engine builders are even starting to say it’s ok for break in

(You still won’t convince me to put a Fram filter in anything though :rotflmao:)
