General Question. And how is everyone? Has anyone put in a Straight 6 4200 in Dually/SRW 1 Ton to 3/4 ton Pickup/SUV?

Wondering if someone had a chance of putting in a Straight 6 Atlas Vortec engine in a Dually/Single Rear Wheel , Pickup/SUV that is 1 Ton to 3/4 tons.

Along with Th400 Automatic and 3.73 gears or low.

Tires of inches of 33 to 32 inches.

I've only ever seen one Atlas swap and that was years ago into a truck much older than a GMT-400.... it was so long ago it may have actually been in a magazine.

Why would you want to put a TH400 behind it?

The atlas 4.2L is a decent engine, but not for a 3/4 or 1-ton truck. Its power band is not correct for a vehicle that is thousands of pounds heavier than the orig veh it came in. also 3.73 gears are too high for 32's or 33's you want 4.10's, 4.56's or 4.88's

There is a reason you don't really see the Atlas swaps done on trucks, they don't function correctly.

I've read a few guys "thinking" about doing some swapped turbo straight 6 Atlas 4.2 in a full-sized truck...but never actually seen it done.

There's better straight 6s to turbo swap... i.e. Cummins
2JZ-GTE
RB26DET

Plenty of others as well. But those are the ones that off the top of my head came up.

Gobs of power in stock form, and there are companies that make the adapter plates for the SBC patterned trans.

2JZ came to mind also but couldnt imagine one of those in a 1-ton, lol. That would be cool though!

Built correctly with a single turbo and a custom set of cams to shift the power band from high RPM to mid it would be decent in a truck, but it's really expensive to build a 2JZ correctly.
