My truck recently died and this is what it sounds like when I crank it. It's doesn't crank steadily until I let go of the key but instead it cranks and pauses and cranks and pauses some more until I release the key.

My starter is fairly new and my battery is brand new. Can this be a bad ground? :banghead:

Going by just a video diagnose. Its sounds way out of time possibly why it died.

Did it make even odd sounds before it died. Also in the video sorta sounds like its hitting hard like something broke in rotating assembly

What year is it? Any engine codes?
That's really weird. See how it feels turning it over by hand then do a compression test.

Hi guys, I unplugged the coil and it did crank steadily like it's supposed to. So it appears like it went out of timing on it's own. Not sure how that would happen though.

It's a 99 and I haven't gotten any codes yet.

Maybe a stripped gear on your distributor shaft? Is this a TBI or Vortec?

Edit: must be a Vortec.

It was running fine the day before. How would it just go out of timing?

By the way, the cap and rotor are fairly new.
