I always worried about my truck getting stolen. I once had a Camaro with T good. So I went to the junkyard and found a camaro with T-tops. It has a set of map lights with individual switches in the rear view mirror built in. I rewired it so the map lights come on with one switch and the other switch was my killswitch. When I got in or out the truck it looked like I was adjusting my mirror or looking at something.

on my old service truck the kill switch is a ball plunger switch behind the drink cup. The cup has to be pushed in for the contact to be made. I just left the cup holder out.

I would put a alarm with a two way remote and a kill switch.

So I came out to a shattered steering column this morning after someone tried to steal my 93 k1500 from in front of my house. Does anyone know of where I can get a metal shield that wraps around the column to prevent access to the column? Sorry if this isn't the right category, any help would be great as I am having no luck finding one

My brother has a corvette and he uses a battery disconnect throw switch. He just leaves the keys in it.
LOL Not stolen or damaged yet and it is stored in an open carport

Well if you get an alarm recommend a train horn. That will call attention if the thief's open or break the glass lol. If I had a kill switch I would use it in the driver side seat. Heard law enforcement here has there's on the seat as well. Think they have a 3 step process though

you can always use a hidden switch under the carpet like the police Crown vics. Or the old high beam floor switch like some GMs had in the 70s.

My thoughts exactly. I know the school of thought, why put money into a $50 motor, but the value of the motor isn't anyways what you pay for it. If the rotating assembly and the block is in good shape, the only thing left is cam and valvetrain. Why buy the same solution twice if you can buy it once and be done with it?

the engine being $50 is just a good deal
If the crank rods and pistons aren’t jacked. But yeah basically cam
Lifters heads and intake. Either way if it came between a stock cam and a roller I would choose roller even if it cost more and I had to wait

Might just be my city but I have yet to see a police car with a kill switch. Our guys don't want an extra step to get the car going. None of our stuff is take home though.

I always wanted to wire a kill switch to the horn. No thief would want the attention of hitting the horn to start the car IMO.

Sorry to hear, I have seen a few of these in person and was impressed with the look and fit.

Guess it's a "P300 LOK-ITT", not sure if they make them anymore, if I find one for sale I will post the link.

Inexperienced crook. trying to break that column like the old square body columns.
A visible deterent like one of these would stop the damage that squirrel did:

I have never seen a column shield for the '98 up columns, but have never looked for one either.

Another visible deterent such as a very visible slow flashing LED that can be seen a few feet away will also keep all but the most determined thieves away from the truck.

And then add a kill switch that kills the fuel pump and/or the ecu just in case they do manage to pop the column.
