1994 C1500 2WD Cheyenne with 4.3L V6, AT, work truck/bare bones type with no AC, power accessories or cruise.
While installing a new stereo, I have come up with a mystery -
When I removed some of the lower instrument panel facias - such as ash tray, the fuse panel facia, and the panel between the fuse panel and the ash tray (directly under the steering column)....after getting the stereo head unit in (where the cassette player was in the middle of the dash) I set out to reinstall these panels.... HOWEVER
I noticed a loose-free black wire directly under the steering column with a slide connector (it is a ground wire I assume) which I must have dislodged when I removed one of the panels?
I pulled the wire and it comes from up the steering column - so I started the truck and tested the steering column functions (wiper/washer, horn) and everything works.
The connector on the wire looks like the type to plug into the fuse box - which I also include a picture of - notice the yellow wire plugged into the fuse box with the same connector type.
The unconnected black wire appears to be part of a pair with the yellow wire (same length and wire gauge) - and it would seem that it is 'supposed' to plug into the empty fuse box space left of where the yellow wire is inserted as part of a pair....
I have tried to find any connection from the black wire with an ohmmeter - nothing - no connection and no power to the wire either.
I have looked at C1500 wiring diagrams - the fuse box location where the yellow wire is inserted is for power to the radio - and should be yellow, so I assume that is what is is - and is correct. The new radio works fine, as did the OEM original I took out.
I am not complaining mind you - everything works - but what is up with the black wire - I don't know about you, but I get nervous when what looks like an unplugged wire is just hanging around....
