Instead of the TCI controller, I'd recommend a PCM tune. If you swap in a 411, you can add tow/haul that way, plus your motor will run harder and your trans will be set the way you like it.

I have Dashcommand and a BAFX obd2 device, and it literally could not be any easier. For initial set up, you plug the device in, open Dashcommand, enter your vehicle info, validate PIDs, and it connects. From then on, you just have to plug the device in, open the app, and hit connect.

Also... has anybody actually been able to get Torque to read the trans temps on GMT400s? I remember a few of us were talking about it a month or so ago to no avail.

I can +1 on the 0411 swap; I did it to my 96 454, and after working out a few bugs it runs like a ***** ape now.
And my tuning is still pretty mild too I think,

I wouldn't get to worried about the temp. I just pulled a 7000ish lb trailer from northern ontario over the mountains and up vancouver island in 30 degree heat. I dont have the big block so climbing a couple hills, like out of Kamloops, was miserable but I had to get to work for tomorrow and couldn't wait for a cooler day. I have a blackbear computor on a stock 350 with a ton of miles on it and the trans stage 1 tune. I crawled up that hill for close to an hour in second gear and enough throttle to keep about 2500rpm afraid to let off in case it couldn't pull away from a stop. Had the windows open and the heater cranked for what it could do to help. Temp got as high as about 115 until the fan clutch enganged then it was only like 100 all the way to the top. I have never done anything so evil to my precious baby but it never complained. The floor got pretty hot though!!!

I wish I had the instrumentation though just for piece of mind and curiousity. I was unaware until reading this now that there is already a sensor onboard. I recently put in the overhead DIC and I was thinking of finding a sensor compatible with it to stick in the tranny and get one of the mirror/compass/temp/backup camera units for the outside temp

Here in Mississippi it gets hot....VERY HOT!! On a summer day the temp gets a 100 degrees with ease in muggy air so i need to keep a eye on those trans temp. Way i look at it... a 90 dollar gauge can save you a couple grand later if you can monitor whats going on.

Since I've had a gauge I've come to realize that if the coolant is in check and the torque converter is locked, trans is fine. Kinda have to witness that yourself to be comfortable with it. I don't really intend to run one on the dually for that reason.
