Now for some ignorant reason, I have the WANT to go LS (6.0) because of the power that can be had. I still never had my current setup dynoed but I know it is mid-high 300 range on both power and torque. I looked at the STOCK 6.0 LS output and it could be had with (360/380 power/torque), and it didn't help reading up on the green tahoe project in our forum that did the very same thing.

I know if I considered doing something as crazy as an LS swap, I would put my current TBI motor in something else, or build up a similar truck for my dad and put the motor in it. This is still just a "I would like to do" kind of thing, but I don't have a garage/ shop to do it all in.

You will also gain fuel mileage with a LS. Expect about a 15-20% increase in fuel effeciency, if you can keep your foot out of it that is

I don't know if you read my whole thread here, but at 60-65 I can get 15.5 from a very peppy TBI setup. My dad has an 07 4.8 LS and only manages 18 mpg with his 3.23 rear end, I would gladly entertain the idea of 18 or better if I could.

Ok so I had a GM master tech listen to my engine, and he told me that my stumbling and sputtering was my ECM sensor, so I tracked down some AC Delco sensors (one ECM and one temperature gauge sensor) <—- these are supposed to be within 10 degrees of each other so I shelled out $60 from the stealership to acquire said sensors.

Well I’ll be damned if the sucker didn’t run better than it has in over a year. I have tried two or three autozone sensors, and none of them did the trick. My engine ran extremely rich, and ****** with the cheap parts store sensors compared to the dealer parts.

Now the ultimate test is my trip to my girlfriends house to see what my fuel economy is on the highway.

Oh I also had the joy of shelling out $130 for a battery, I knew I was on borrowed time, but I was hoping to avoid it a little longer.

Okay so now I am back to my home where my laptop lives so I can post pictures of my latest acquisition. I have purchased a 1998 dash and wiring harness, as well as the ac/ heater box. I never have really liked the square 88-94 dash, and my first Z71 was a 97 model, so I have always been attracted to that style dash, but almost all of them are automatic. I am not a fan of the automatic transmission, so I purposely bought a manual, and I kinda had to take what I could get. Now the question of, why would you change out the dash after repainting it and such? Well I have already stated that I am not in love with my square dash.

I do have to repair the dash I pulled because of cracks, and I have experience with chevy dash repair from an old cavalier I owned, so I am not scared of the project, and I am going to put a dash cover over it anyway. I still need to get the inner door panels, rods, window regulators, and a manual steering column to be 100 percent correct. I have acquired the 1 ton passenger airbag delete pocket, so I have that covered. I have also removed the airbag wiring harness from my junkyard harness.

I will say that I won't start my swap until after I have all the necessary pieces, plus I have to get my truck inspected and registered before I start this level of tear down. So stay tuned!!

Well I got my truck inspected today, and it passed with flying colors, granted it was only a safety inspection and I have gone through all those things they look for and replaced them, next step registration.

Ok so remember I said I was working on a dash swap, well I still don't have all the pieces I need, because money ran short for this month. However I do have some pics to share to show the progress I have started.

Cracked dash with pieces gorilla glued together and bonded with fiberglass and bondo.

This is the best $25 I have spent, I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. Seriously, if you are even remotely considering sealing up the leak at the filter adapter, just go ahead and bypass the stupid thing. I researched the two different styles, allen head or regular bolt head, and more people favored the allen head bolts to prevent leaks.

I am completely 100% stock as far as lift tire size etc, and yes I took pics for reference to share with y'all.

I will give you a word of caution - having no oil cooler caused the motor in my 97 to fail. Oil got too hot, and got places it shouldn't. End scenario was a spun main bearing after burning most of the oil off while off-roading.

Mine wasn't born with one, I don't know if it's because I have a standard transmission or not, but I considered it briefly. My friend that built my engine said that the only real benefit to it is when towing, but I don't do much of that.

I have noticed that the Vortec based engines crapped out before its time. I remember the 4.3 in the blazers locking up at around 100k. My cousin had his 350 replaced at 175k, and it was never driven hard, same owner 99% of the trucks life.
