I have a 1994 K1500 with a 5.7 and a 5 speed. How can I tell which trans it has, so I can get the right amount and kind of fluid because I'd like to change it.

NV3500 = synchromesh
NV4500 = gear oil
The possibility of having an NV4500 in a half ton from the factory is not likely.
I have one in mine, but that’s because I swapped to it after inihilating three NV3500’s.
The 3500 can handle barely more than 300ft lbs of torque, whereas the 4500 can handle 450ft lbs of torque.
NV4500s need a GL4 oil. They have ceramic synchronizers that will corrode with any other kind of oil in it.
