a freind of mine bought a 4X4 a few years back (about 10 years now) it was a totaled truck. he has a 2wheel drive. his motor went out in it and is going to put the motor out of the 4X4 in it, i told him that i thought the oil pans has to be swaped and he said someone told him that they did not. is this true? thanks

pans should be fine, the main difference between the 2wd and 4wd that I'm aware of in that area is the oil filter adapter on the 4wd is angled, whereas the 2wd is straight down, simply for a little extra clearance. I actually prefer the 2wd oil filters, they're quite a bit bigger.

if there is a difference in the pans, then it would be the other way around, the 4wd pan might be slightly clearanced or something (which I doubt that it is), but shouldn't cause any issues on a 2wd, there's tons of room on a 2wd.

edit- you're talking about stock oil pans, right?
