Truck cranks but wont start electrical problem

Alright i put a new distributer cap on today. 2 things i couldnt get the rotor button to pull off as easy as i was told. So we hooked everyhing back up and the ignition coil was arcing and we fixed that got a new wire and still didnt start did sputter up for a sec though did the coil burn up or what?
