Tapping/ knocking noise on start up

That makes sense. RPMs would be a little higher in park. When you load the transmission in drive, RPMs would drop. I would sure start with a slightly heavier grade oil. My old Van (Dodge) had the same issue and that change helped. YMMV of course but it would be cheap to try. It could still be a lifter also. Please be sure and post to the thread if you figure out what it is.
Will try a heavier oil and will get a motor on the side to build then drop in eventually. It runs fine with the noise now

Hope it helps and please let us know if it does. I expect building a new motor would not be a bad idea for down the road, especially if it does turn out to be a rod making that noise.
