the lift has nothig to do with the shaft as the lift doesnt move the steering box. if you have a body lift then different story but the shaft will still accomodate 3" i think.

no go to the junkyard you can get one for 15 bucks, i got mine for 5. once you take one off just ,ake sure the u joints are still good.

edit: it may not work on your truck 95 and 96 were odd years. 97 and 98 for the most part will not work,

Yeah I'm trying to read up on that now. I got under the hood when I got home and it doesn't look right.

yeah your stock rag joint is probably inside the interior which would make the jeep shaft unuseable to you. best bet to upgrade steering is either reload the box, replace the box, or rebuild the box, plus change out your old steering shaft for a new one.
