Steering Box Differences (88-98)

I Need to know why the 96 trucks used a different box then the 88-95. Evo came out in 97

Was start of full size trucks Vortec eng series, and OBD 2. By box did you mean steering box?

But, to answer your question, "EVO" is short for "Electronically Variable Orifice". An EVO was available on some '97 and later GMT400's power steering pump. The EVO, along with other sensors, enabled the steering feel to be varied, from "light" (easy to turn) at low speed, e.g., for parking the vehicle, to "normal" for higher-speed (30MPH and above, thereabouts) operation.
