Getting set to do the same thing in my '89. There are a few things you need to know before jumping into this. It's NOT just a plug-n-play swap. The '89 cars differ from the trucks in the way the VSS talks to the speedometer. Cars use a gear driven VSS, whereas trucks use a reluctor wheel and magnetic sensor (see pics at the bottom). The '89 truck speedometer uses an internal DRAC (speed buffer) to calculate gear ratio/tire size, not sure about the cars. Each truck has a dedicated speedo for its' drive set-up (3:08, 3:42, etc.). I've included some pics of a couple of clusters I may use, ('92 plain speedo, '93 Suburban with tach). They differ with the harness plugs, and some plastic dash cavity rework is needed. Also know that these units both need an external DRAC to function. Because I'm doing an LS swap, my PCM will receive its' trans VSS signal and feed it to the speedometer, so no DRAC is needed.
