Not sure if it works on chrome, probably not I think. Does not hurt tires or brakes.
Would still recommend you guys pull off the wheel so you don't risk leaving some on a rubber brake line, ball joint boot, etc.

Methyl chloride is kinda nasty. I found a lonesome can of it in the back room of an old mom'n'pop general store. The stuff had sat there so long that it had leaked out the rusted can and heavily corroded the metal shelf it was sitting on.
