Did you ever remove the overload leaf spring? If so what was the result? Does it ride ok without hitting the stops?

There are drop leaf hangers available. The forward leaf hangers can be replaced with 2" drop hangers. That should help.
Also, they are usable on both 2wd and 4x4's.

Yep, sounds like OP is going for a 3" rear drop, so hangers in front and then move his existing drop shackles to the 1" position, if the brand he chose has both spots (1" and 2")
