Any tips for putting the final torque (185 ft-lbs) to the pitman arm nut without letting the steering gear sector shaft turn? Does it hurt anything to just let the pitman arm rotate to the end of its travel and torque against it?

I used my impact until I didn’t get anymore movement. Seemed to work well.

I recently did this to my truck too. Just used the impact gun and a few extra burps from it and called it a day. I've gone about 4,000 miles and no issues, over Michigan's ruff roads.

Thanks guys, that’s probably where I’ll end up with it.
