nbs steering wheel controls

I am planning a project to swap my steering wheel with one from a 2005 trailblazer. I already know it doesn't fit the splines but what I'd like to know is does anyone know if the buttons are controlled through the pcm? I am determined to get these working regardless and was unable to find any information by searching.

Swap the top shaft out and the buttons are resistive to ground.
There was a thread on it a few months back.
