Just bought a 99 Yukon for my wife, and the gas gauge is fluttering like a humming bird.
Any ideas guys?

Your problem is most likely the stepper motor for the gauge itself, you'll find its a problem for many of our trucks, including mine haha. I believe if you can find a stepper motor that will fix it or you can get a new cluster and swap odometers. Or get a new aftermarket gauge like an Autometer and put in a pillar or something.

Also I would swap the cluster and make the new cluster mileage match your old one!

To be technical stepper motors weren't used until the NBS. We have "gauge coils".
What happens is- over time the oil (that's used to dampen vibration) viscosity breaks down and that's when the needle will start giving you a hard time.

Here's the first indication of a bad 'coil that's on its way out:
